So, the Cajun Dance Party album, "The Colourful Life," leaked this weekend, and I, regretfully and sorrowfully, must say... it is disappointing. The most amazing part of this band is how mature and together they are in the standout tracks, "Amylase" and "The Hill, The View, and The Lights." You would never be able to guess that the band members range from 16 to 17 years old. However, on the rest of the disc, they sound their age, on the verge of annoyingly "emo." Very disappointing. I guess it requires more listens, but I don't really want to waste my time with it. I'll just forget they made the rest of the CD, and focus on "The Race," "Amylase" and "The Hill, The View, and The Lights."
I hope their second CD, due out later this year,
is a more mature release.
Okay, what's with the psych-folk-pop phenomenon? I mean, I liked Animal Collective back in the day of "Sung Tongs," but it gradually lost its appeal. I appreciate the efforts of Panda Bear and all those other bands, like the Dodos, but... I don't know. I can listen to it every now and then, but I always prefer music
I can relate to.
And since I'm not jumping around in the fields and shit,
it's not my bag. But to each their own..
Coldplay is releasing the first single from their new album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" tomorrow, FOR FREES, on their website. The track is called "Violet Hill," and you know what, I don't care that everyone pretty much hates Coldplay. I hold a very special place in my heart for that band. I've liked them since the first time I heard "Yellow," which was right when it was released in the U.S. and while I haven't listened to them very much since the summer of "X&Y," I will most definitely be buying this album. I have high hopes for it, and I hope Chris Martin and the gang deliver. Opinions on the new single will be posted tomorrow.
And finally, my song of the day is "Head Spinz (Hawnay Troof Remix)" by High Places. I'm totally digging "3/07-9/07" and this remix is kickass. Check it out!
Tomorrow I will discuss the Eames Era, a fabulous little indie-pop band out of Baton Rouge.
To be honest, the reason I started this is because I'M SO DAMN BORED ALL OF THE TIME and it feels like I spend all my free time thinking about sex, drugs, and rock & roll, so why not write about rock & roll? It's more politically correct, and to be honest, I don't exactly want anyone who reads this to know about my personal life.
I spend HOURS UPON HOURS trying to find new music, and it seems like I keep failing. I'm in a music crisis! So this is an attempt to revive my music heart.
I figure I'll spend most of my time on this writing about bands I adore and that have left a significant impression upon me, new artists I happen to stumble upon and like, and albums I've been listening to.
It's just going to be difficult because I feel like I can't focus my thoughts on how music affects me. Which is why it'll always be a good idea to write on this under the influence. Ha.
Until we meet again!
